WHAT?!
Last week Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, shared this update on his social media channel. Here’s a few of the key insights he shared:
“Video is driving an immense amount of growth online for all platforms right now, and it’s one I think we need to lean into more. We are leaning more into entertainment and into video. Because, let’s be honest there is some really serious competition right now.” (aka TikTok).
“We’re no longer a photo-sharing app.” (Or just a photo sharing app it would seem)
Mosseri emphasized there will be numerous changes coming to Instagram over the next year. The four areas they are focusing on primarily are video, creators, shopping, and messaging.
What does this mean for you?
If you haven’t embraced video yet, you can’t put it off any longer. Want proof about how this is going to affect your account? Take a look at this snapshot from last month:
Of the 10,000+ accounts I reached on Instagram, 9,684 of those were from Non-followers or a whopping 89%. Great news when you want your content to be found by new people!
And how did all those non-followers come across my content?
Reels!
Look at the bar graph that shows I reached almost 9500 people from Reels alone, the majority of those being people who do not yet follow me.
